How to use this tool

  1. Enter bill subtotal, tax, tip percentage and number of people.
  2. Choose whether tip is based on the bill before or after tax.
  3. Calculate the tip and exact rounded shares.

A worked example

A 100.00 bill plus 15% tip split three ways → 38.34, 38.33 and 38.33; total 115.00.

What to know

Uses two-decimal currency amounts. Extra cents are distributed among some people so shares add up to the rounded bill total. Tax is entered as an amount, not inferred from a location.
